Run Long to Live Long

Not always “Disease” and ” Medicine ” go hand in hand . Sometimes its more than the medicines  , some changes in our life style helps a long way in the treatment of diseases ! Such diseases are known as life style diseases.
Life style diseases include Diabetes , Hyper tension and Heart diseases like myocardial infarction . In the present age , when these diseases overlap they are said to be “Metabolic Syndrome”. The common risk factors for these diseases are smoking, alcoholism, high fat diet (perhaps animal foods ) , sedentary life style and obesity .
Here the common question that arises obviously : ” Is a slim, active , vegetarian who is a non smoker and non alcoholic almost free from risk of life style diseases ?”
The answer from the above discussion is of course a big yes !” The risk is low!” But researches reveal  the other way around .

Kaiser Permanente ( a Health Maintenance Organisation in the US) has found an alarmingly high rate of hospitalisation among its Indian male patients, almost 4 times higher than that of Caucasian patients and about 6 times higher than that of Chinese patients . These latest findings have created chaos among general public as to what is actually safe and what is not !

STAY ACTIVE ! STAY HEALTHY!

STAY ACTIVE ! STAY HEALTHY!

Biochemistry says that Lipoprotein A and  homocysteine ( a compound derived from the amino acid cysteine) levels in blood are indicators of risk for heart diseases. South Asians have been found to have increased levels of these two . So , Genetics has been a contributing factor .
High amounts of homocysteine and lipoprotein A and specific mutations in C reactive protein leading to insulin resistance have been used to explain the high incidence of life style diseases in people with normal BMI.
So what literally can  render people risk free ? Exercise , active life style , adequate sleep , reduction in stress and healthy nutrition can really help to overcome the risk factors , if any.   Healthy nutrition means to take high fibre and low fat diet ; coloured fruits and green vegetables .But ultimately it all depends on how the body metabolism works .
Hence , it is not always about what you eat ; its actually about what your body does with what you eat . We have got a life line in the form of ‘ exercise ‘ and ‘sports ‘. Stay Active , Stay healthy !!
