The Rajiv Gandhi medical college and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital organises its largest conference and medical festival Zenith every year. Zenith as the name suggests aims to take medical education in India to the summit of excellence. Students learn not only from each other but also from the leaders and experts in the medical community. And for this purpose we plan to take our conference to national levels this year.
I attended the conference and its workshops as a delegate last year. Being a 1st year M.B.B.S student I was amazed by all the workshops and events. All my fellow colleagues gained insight and expertise from top minds in the medical community. We got the opportunity to attend a hands-on workshop on beginning and advanced suturing skills by Dr.Debashish Das organised by ethicon and a similar practical workshop on cardio pulmonary resuscitation by international training centre of American heart association. The on stage events included the medical quiz and debate for undergraduate students. The crowd was filled with excitement as they cheered for their favourite teams during the quiz and the topics such as designer babies , euthanasia and genetic modification of embryos etc. during debate offered to broaden our horizon on the issues faced by medical field and fraternity and helped to device solutions to problems through free exchange of ideas and methodologies. Guest lectures by renowned and experienced surgeon Dr.Shrikhande and an extremely talented and colo-rectal surgeon Dr.Niranjanagrawal inspired us to acquire new knowledge , enhance existing skills and develop relationships across the field to reach the summit to excellence. My favourite part during the two day event was Dr.HozefaBhinderwala’s guest lecture on speed reading. We not only developed better reading skills but also various mind boggling aspects of human brain in a two hour long workshop. The second day of the conference brought with it the most awaited event – MedX the medical symposium. It comprised of teams from medical colleges all over mumbai representing their revolutionary ideas on topics like telemedicine ,genome mapping and brain death etc., backed by creative audio-visual presentations and speakers with extraordinary skills.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion between two groups of undergraduate scholars an faculty members discussing the pros and cons on the introduction of exit exams for M.B.B.S students which kept us glued to our seats with intent. The two day long event came to an end as all the delegates and participants bonded over lip smacking refreshments.
An event of this standing cannot happen overnight. The wheels start rolling weeks ago. It requires planning and a bird’s eye for details. We are fortunate enough to be backed by a team of very sincere and dedicated colleagues and teachers. The involvement and willingness of our students to take on the completion of tasks beyond their comfort zones has led our conference to reach its success peak. With the same enthusiasm and pack full of surprise events workshops and guest lectures we are proud to announce the arrival our four day long national level conference , Zenith – The Summit To Excellence.
